The Domain name is basically the ‘name of a website’ or the name of a future website that is going to be created under that domain name, followed by a dot and whatever comes after the dot will be the extension of the domain (also known as: ‘top level domain’).

Therefore, the domain name consists of two parts:
– a Second Level Domain;
– a Top Level Domain;

What is a Web Domain Name

The domain name locates an Internet address for “BestStoreInTown.com” for example at Internet point 198.0.06.4 and a particular server host named “www.”
The “.com” part of the domain name reflects the purpose of the organization or entity (in this example would “commercial”) and is called the top-level domain name or the extension of the domain name.
So the Domain Names are used to identify one or more existing IP addresses somewhere in the World Wide Web (www), the Internet. For example, the domain name apple.com represents about a dozen IP addresses. Domain names are used in URLs to identify particular Web pages. For example, in the URL:  https://www.speedoservers.com/cpanel-shared-hosting/, the domain name is:  speedoservers.com
